It is mistakenly held by the locals that the bodies of missing Rudi Rogers and Fifi Fantasia, bottle-blonde and always generous waitress, would be found if anyone were to smash open the concrete pedestal holding up the 1972 Oldsmobile 442, now relegated to the role of billboard for widow Raisha Rogers’s ever popular roadhouse on the main drag into St Louis.
A landmark for miles around, Raisha keeps the junk bucket in pristine condition, climbing the ladder once a week to wash and polish and buff and shine. She also pops open the boot, examines its contents, smiles to herself.
Written in response to Rogers Wisoff-Fields’ weekly 100 word challenge found here: https://rochellewisoff.com/
This would make a great plot for a book. Inventive way to hide bodies.
Fascinating, the bodies could well be in the concrete, whilst the boot holds? Their shoes🙂
Possibly. And their socks.
Forget the smell, Patrick, your story is coming up roses.
But I feel a bit sorry for the fabulous Fif…
i!
Yes, she was a sweet little thing. Sad.
Oh, I do like a twisty tale. Nice one.
Thank you.
Kind of amazing she’s getting away with it, as people must see her up there every week checking the trunk. Kind of a creepy woman, enjoying watching the bodies deteriorate. She must have a strong stomach!
Her customers also have to have strong stomachs. The food she dishes up is awful, I have to say. I tried to make her a good cook but my keyboard says otherwise. Modern technology, eh? Can’t be trusted.
🙂
They are probably human jerky by now…. Great story. Love the name of the waitress.
Thank you. I will give your comment some thought, chew on it.
You are welcome.
Love the style! Might try 100 words, two sentences next time.
It can be fun but sometimes hard to read out aloud. Thanks for saying.
Dear Petrol Prinsloo,
I hope Raisha’s an embalmer to keep the bodies from stinking. Nicely done.
Shalom,
Rochelle
I mean…Roger
Petrol?
She is an embalmer. That’s amazing. How did you know. It’s meant to be my dark secret – Raisha the Embalmer – I’m hoping for a movie or TV series. (Pass the formaldehyde.)
The end scene of a classic noir story. Well done.
Thank you Iain. Kind words.
Like Michael, I was thinking there is the issue of smell… they must have done something nefarious to end up in the boot!
Because all you FFers are so concerned about the smell, I’ve backstoried to have her mummify the bodies and so overcome that issue.
That’s a good thing 😏
Great grisly title!
Thanks, Alan.
Cunning hiding place. Hopefully she’s done something to counteract the smell.
I hadn’t thought about the smell. Perhaps she mummified them. In fact she did, I’ve just backstoried that.
Nice one! I hope no untoward odour seeps out. (I do have to admire your lengthy sentences!!) Keep we’ll both.
Thanks Elaine. We’re isolating frantically. Not easy. No hugs from the teenies.
I hope she’s using a preservative on the boot’s contents
I certainly hope so.
