“Well, I’m not hanging around waiting to get shoved into an oven (season well, cook at a low temperature for three hours) with a bunch of rosemary,” said Roger the well-hung ram.
“Yeah, sod that for a game of soldiers,” said Larry, a lamb. “Who wants to end up in a stewpot (brown the bite-sized cubes on all sides before adding vegetables and stock, simmer for six hours), eh ?”
“Okay, boys and girls, see that gap in the fence? We’re off!”
“Help! They’ve all gone walkies,” moaned Bo Peep, a small non-vegetarian shepherdess and latest intern. “Any thoughts, anyone?”
Loved this! I have never had lamb. Something to look forward to.
Ah well. Bon appetit. thanks for reading.
So funny. Poor Bo-Peep though. I fancy her internship might not last much longer. Who knew shee could be so wilful?
I mean sheep of course. Bloody typos.
I thought shee was a half-hearted attempt at a pun. Now I know it was just shear carelessness (You aren’t sure, are you?).
Haha, this was a good read. We actually pass a sign on the A38 in Devon (I think that’s the road) at the side of which is a sign, “The Well Hung Meat Company”. Not that I noticed that description of your ram, or anything…..
Ha, Roger used to live just off the A38! Maybe the sign has something to do with his absence? Thanks for reading.
I’d love a copy of your cookbook – put it on Ebay. You are so clever, great idea for a story and I love the format. Awesome and delicious! Nan 🙂
Hi, I trust you’re not thinking of eating Roger and Larry. They belong to the conglomerate Bo Peep is interning (‘interning’? Crucify me.) for.
I think Roger may be deluding himself. If he was really that well endowed, he’d escape the pot and be kept for breeding 🙂 Great story – the mini-recipes added something a little special.
His one real skill lies in reading menus. He knows when to hide!
Dear Patrick,
Everyone picked up on the well hung ram, they just didn’t want anyone to know that they did. Ewe did a good job cooking this story up.
Aloha,
Doug
You’re probably right – I now feel sheepish about my earlier judgement. Time for lunch.
So funny, Patrick! I think Bo likes her sheep a little too much. Just how is there a gap in the fence? I wonder. I bet she’s a good cook. I agree with Rochelle. I’m waiting for this to come out on Pixar. You should pitch it!
Re the gap, an on-going investigation is in place. A dastardly plot is to be foiled.
Well, I most CERTAINLY saw the “well hung” ram part. But, that aside, this was a terrifically original take on the prompt. Well-hu … I mean, well-DONE!
Thanks for kind comment. Not sure if the ewes were running towards or away from the ram!
Patrick, Good story. We both seemed to have the same person in mind. In my story she had more than a hole in the fence to worry about, but that possibly contributed to the problem. Humorous and well written. 🙂 —Susan
Poor Bo Peep! Too much attention this week. Thanks for comment.
Dear Patrick,
Thanks for the cooking tips. 😉 I love a good lamb chop. Was anyone else beside me disturbed by the “well hung ram?” I’m waiting for your story to come out on Pixar. Cute.
Shalom,
Rochelle
Hi Rochelle. No-one else picked up on the well-hung ram – they’re all too clean living. Some fun pieces this week.
Nice…poor Bo Peep, she’s gone and lost her sheep! But they seemed to be in the know better than she and what interesting recipes!
Just writing the piece made me hungry. Thanks for reading.
Very cute. Those sheep know how to cook, don’t they? Well done, Lucy
They’ve published a fantastic cookery book – vegetarian, mark you.
I enjoyed the recipes, but I’m standing here in the kitchen with this live lamb and ….
There’s a dilemma. Eat out and keep the lamb for fresh eggs every morning.
well cooked ram.. yummy.. and mint sauce perhaps
Definitely mint sauce. Can’t do without.
Love the recipes–what an original format! Five stars 🙂
Pleased it made your mouth water. Thanks for stars.
Ooh, I feel hungry now. Is that wrong? I guess Bo Peep and crew should have kept their fence in better order.
Fun story!
Don’t be too harsh; Bo’s still a novice.
So the BoPeeps get worn out with all the running off? Interns always get the worst of it.
Tough world but if they stick with it they may get jobs – but on zero-hours contracts.
Run sheep run! Great story as always Patrick!
Thanks. Once again.
I don’t see your contribution on FF?
Did you see my request to use a text of yours?
I, too, enjoyed the interlude of recipes in brackets. This is clever.
Thanks. Sometimes these things just happen.
The truth of Bo Peep is finally revealed. Good job.
Yep, that’s her! Thanks for reading.
Ah. A nursery as told from the other side. Nicely written
Thanks. They’re always a good source/sauce for a quick story.
Love the recipes in brackets!
Fun, isn’t it.
Patrick
