The Burrowers

They weren’t stupid. They knew what to do. They had read about the MO from the newspapers, from people who had gone before.

All you needed to do was to rent an office close to the bank and start digging. Don’t make any noise and pile up the soil out of sight. For productivity, rig up some sort of lighting system for the tunnelers.

The boss was pleased with the progress. “Well done, lads,” he said, lighting a Cuban.

When they finally surfaced they found themselves in the library.

“Well, this is a first,” said one of the men.

  1. Great twist to the tunnel, sorry, to the tale.
Fun story, I suspect the bank is safe for the foreseeable future!

And then what happens. A fun story in itself, but I’d love to read what happened next. I can’t imagine this lot sitting down and reading the night away.

  3. Ellespeth says:

They meant to dig to the ‘other left’ I’m sure?

  4. Patrick, The money they have to pay to repair the damage will be far greater than any fine. Hunorous and well written. 🙂 — Susan

Hilarious, Patrick. Very creative and I love your wild imagination.

    Dear Patrick,

Is it a crime to break into a library? I suppose if it’s after hours or something or they made too much noise getting in… No harm, no foul and they can check out The Great Train Robbery.

    Great story, sir.

    Aloha,

    Doug

Very amusing–especially loved the ending! Wonder if they will “dig” into the stacks at the library.

    No, probably not….

  8. subroto says:

Ha! Ha! At least they can get a ‘Burrowing for Dummies’ book from the reference section.

  9. hafong says:

Well, I guess they weren’t that smart either! Good laugh. 🙂

  10. Dear Patrick,

Perhaps a GPS would’ve helped them. Clever and unique take on the prompt.

    Shalom,

  11. Margaret says:

Well, they certainly weren’t stupid – what they lacked in a sense of direction they made up for with good humour and a philosophical approach to their failures. Good, healthy attitudes. Fun.

  12. Lol.. I’m not sure the treasure they were after was books. I hope they came out in the self help section. 🙂

  13. Whoops. Map held upside down? Most amusing

  14. Wait, didn’t they want to wind up in the library? See, they had overdue books and had been banned from …. nah, I guess not.

  15. Yes.. digging ha its problem if you lack a sense of direction.. but at least they can lend as many books they want without getting any fine.

  16. Ha! That is quite a witty write. 🙂

  17. Maybe they’ll find a map!

  18. Oops…I hope they found a wealth of knowledge! Great twist!!!

  19. Sandra says:

Yes, I could see how that might be a first for one or two of them. I hope they made productive use of their time.

  20. wmqcolby says:

    Hahahaha! A first indeed.

I'd love to read what you think ...
